Communications Officer (Full Time)

Dublin, Ireland

Job Description

Key responsibilities of the position will include:

  • Collaborate with management to develop and implement an effective communications strategy based on our target audiences and tailored to key stakeholder groups
  • Design and implement a digital media plan for the organisation, and ensure online activities are integrated with the organisation’s communications strategy and strategic objectives
  • Plan and deliver engaging, high quality communications to key audiences
  • Maintain EPIC’s website and microsites as a central source of information on and for children and young adults in the care system and their families. Including participation, research, policy, legislation and related issues
  • Write, edit, proof and disseminate content, including publications, press releases, website content, annual reports, newsletters, digital assets and other material
  • Support the creation and dissemination of quarterly newsletter and annual report
  • Co-ordinate EPIC ’s annual programme of events, including campaigns, launches, conferences and seminars
  • Act as first point of contact with media, managing requests for information and interviews, and providing briefings for CEO and other stakeholders as appropriate
  • Maintain, analyse and generate reports on EPIC campaigns, media engagement, social media and website traffic
  • Collaborate with other EPIC team members on campaigns and other strategies to target organisations, donors, projects etc

Other

  • Build strong working relationships with colleagues in the organisation; Develop networks within the broader charity, statutory and corporate sectors; Work in accordance with charity governance, ethics and standards; Undertake other duties commensurate with the role, in pursuit of the goals and objectives of the organisation and strategic plan, as agreed with the CEO.

Person Specification

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Experience of designing and implementing a communications strategy
  • Knowledge of digital best practice
  • Ability to build and maintain strong internal and external relationships
  • Commitment to producing high quality, engaging content
  • Excellent writing, editing and proof-reading skills and experience; Demonstrable ability to interpret and reproduce numeric data accurately
  • Ability to write engaging content and express complex ideas in clear and accessible language tailored to diverse audiences
  • A third-level qualification in a relevant area (communications, journalism, public relations, advocacy or related field) or equivalent experience
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a relevant role
  • Proficiency in IT and digital media, with an appetite for self-directed learning and discovery of new online tools
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Ability to work well as part of a small, busy team

Desirable Skills and Experience

The successful candidate may also have:

  • Experience of designing, delivering and managing engaging social media campaigns;
  • Experience in managing events, from conception right through to follow-up;
  • Experience in lobbying and public affairs;
  • Knowledge of ethics and standards for a charity;
  • Interest in childcare policy and reform in Ireland;
  • Knowledge of the care system and related legislation and policy
